Itajaí / Navegantes — FCL export

FCL Export from Itajaí and Navegantes

Itajaí and Navegantes face each other across the Itajaí-Açu river and work in practice as one container complex, with Portonave on the Navegantes bank. It is Santa Catarina's reefer gateway for frozen poultry and pork, and it also moves wood, furniture, textiles and machinery from the state's industrial belt.

Cargo profile

What we handle from this port

The complex sits inside one of the densest industrial regions in southern Brazil, which is why reefer cargo and manufactured goods leave through the same gates.

  • Frozen poultry and pork as reefer FCL, from Santa Catarina's processing plants
  • Frozen and chilled fish and seafood
  • Sawn lumber, plywood, wood panels and furniture from the São Bento do Sul and Rio Negrinho region
  • Textiles and apparel from the Blumenau and Brusque region
  • Machinery, electrical equipment and metal goods from the Joinville region
  • Ceramic products, packaged food and general industrial cargo
Process

How the booking works with Sync Port

1. Rate validation

We check the quote against the real shipment: commodity, HS code, weight per container, equipment, Incoterm and local charge split. For reefer cargo, temperature, ventilation and pre-trip inspection are part of the scope from the start.

2. Booking

We place the booking on the service and the bank of the river that fit the cargo, confirm equipment and plug allocation, and return the confirmation naming the terminal the truck has to report to.

3. Deadlines and cut-off

Documentation, VGM and gate-in cut-offs are tracked separately, and reefer gate-in is usually the tightest of the three. A berthing window that moves can move all of them, so they are reconfirmed rather than copied from the first booking note.

4. Documentation

Invoice, packing list, draft bill of lading and VGM are checked with the certificates the cargo requires: health certificate and plant approval for animal protein, halal certification where the destination requires it, phytosanitary and ISPM 15 for wood and wooden packaging.

5. Follow-up

Gate-in, loading, sailing confirmation and B/L release are reported with the next action named, including changes to the berthing window when they happen.

Reefer plugs and reefer cut-off

Reefer FCL is the core flow here. Plug allocation, temperature setting, ventilation and pre-trip inspection are confirmed at booking, and the reefer gate-in window is normally the tightest deadline on the shipment.

River channel, draft and berthing windows

Access is through the Itajaí-Açu river channel, which depends on maintenance dredging. Draft restrictions and berthing windows are a normal planning factor here and can move a gate-in date, so they are reconfirmed close to the sailing.

Two banks, two terminals

Itajaí and Navegantes are separate terminals with separate gates. The booking says which one applies and the trucking plan follows it. Terminal availability on the Itajaí public side has changed with concession transitions in recent years, so it is confirmed at booking rather than assumed.

Free time and storage

Free time comes from the carrier and the contract, and reefer terms often differ from dry terms. We confirm what the specific booking grants before the container leaves the plant.

Nearby alternatives

Itapoá and São Francisco do Sul are close enough to be genuine alternatives when a service, a cut-off or an equipment type does not work in the complex. Comparing them is part of the quote, not a fallback after a problem.

Transshipment

Several long-haul routings from the complex include a relay. Where that happens, the hub and the connection window are stated in the quote so the destination side can plan with the real number.

Destinations

Typical destinations and considerations

Service patterns change with carrier alliances and seasons, so this table stays qualitative on purpose. Transit time and routing are confirmed on the quote, for the sailing you are actually booking.

FAQ

Questions we get about this port

Are Itajaí and Navegantes the same port?

They are two municipalities on opposite banks of the same river channel, with separate terminals and separate gates, but the market treats them as one container complex. Portonave is on the Navegantes bank. The booking always names the terminal that applies.

Do you handle reefer FCL from this complex?

Yes. Frozen poultry, pork and seafood are the main flows. Reefer bookings need plug allocation, temperature setting, pre-trip inspection and a tighter gate-in window confirmed before the cargo leaves the plant.

Is draft a real constraint here?

It is a real planning factor. The access is a river channel that depends on maintenance dredging, so draft restrictions and berthing windows can shift a schedule. We confirm the window close to the sailing instead of relying on the first booking note.

Should I use Itajaí, Navegantes, Itapoá or Paranaguá?

It depends on supplier location, the service you need, equipment availability and the cut-off you can realistically meet. All of them are within reach of the same industrial base, so we compare them on total cost and total transit rather than defaulting to one.

What certification does frozen protein need?

That is set by the destination, not by the carrier. In practice it means a health certificate, an approved exporting plant for that market, and halal certification for several Middle East and North Africa destinations. These are confirmed before production is allocated to the shipment.

Exporting FCL through Itajaí or Navegantes?

Send origin, destination, commodity, container type and quantity, cargo ready date and Incoterm. If the cargo is reefer, add the temperature setting. We come back with a scoped FCL quote.
